Bedford Regatta, Saturday 12 May 2007 At Bedford Regatta on Saturday 12 May 2007, there was unfortunately an incident between an Abingdon School Junior B eight, racing in the final stages of their race, collided with a Dame Alice Harpur School WJ15 coxed quad who were making their way up to the start. Three of the eight and four of the quad sustained injuries in the collision. Our information is that two of the eight are suffering the effects of concussion; the girls in the quad are all well. The girl who sustained a head injury - which caused some understandable concern to those witnessing the incident - made a remarkable recovery after first aid treatment on site and was able to go to a PE session at school on Monday. Bedford Regatta takes safety of competitors and spectators very seriously and our risk assessments and safety plan have been refined after many years of experience. However, we are always keen to develop our system with lessons learned from any incidents that occur. We have a number of witness statements already from this incident, but would be pleased to learn of any new information that witnesses may be able to provide.
