BRC Sweep the board at Bedford SBH

Bedford Rowing Club swept the board at the Bedford Autumn Fours & Small Boats Head (see results here), winning ten events overall. The whole club joined in the winning spree as Bedford RC took the top three places and six of the top ten places. In total, Bedford RC won five mens titles, three veterans and two womens.

Head of the River was the Senior 2 quad containing Gwyn Williams, Spencer Nichols, Dan Pounds and Jon Lemon who pipped the Elite coxless fours winners and second fastest crew of Gwyn Williams, Steve Breed, Dan Pounds and Michael Hardy by three seconds in a time of 6:37. The third fastest crew and winners of Senior 1 coxless fours was Stuart Storey, Blaine Castle, David Pinkney and Jon Lemon. The strength of the mens squad bodes well for the upcoming Fours Head of the River, which is held over the Boat Race course in two weeks time.

Other event winners from Bedford RC included the Elite coxed four of Gwyn Williams, Steve Breed, David Pinkney and Michael Hardy. Elite coxless pairs was won by Gwynn Williams and Michael Hardy, who were the most successfull oarsmen of the day, winning three medals each.

Bedford RC's veteran squad has traditionally been strong and this season is showing that the oldies only get better as the crew of Paul Knights, Huw Maltby, Richard White, Bill Sadler and cox Imogen Bowis won Veteran B coxed fours. The Veteran B coxless pair of Pete Stasiuk and Dave Edwards were winners again this week, as was the Veteran D coxed four. The womens squad were racing in their first event of the season and have shown that they mean business, winning Womens Senior 3 coxed fours in a time faster than Womens Senior 1 coxed fours. The crew contained Lydia Swift, Julie Merrick, Michelle Emsley and Leslie Clinton. A second win for the squad was in Senior 3 quads, where the medals went to Lesley Clinton, Toni Stamer, Jo Barrell and Amy Finch.
