European Masters Regatta 2006

Press Release from Bedford Rowing Club - 8th October 2006

Bedford Rowing Club and Star Club collaborated to win in Vichy. Dave Powell of Bedford joined up with Mick Parker of Star to win a gold medal in the Veteran B Doubles Sculls Event at the European Masters Regatta. They beat crews from Britain, France and Switzerland.

Closer to home, Bedford Rowing Club's Amy Lindsey notched up another win at Cambridge Autumn Regatta on 10th September over the 600 meter course. She won the Women's Senior Four Single Sculls event by 5 lengths over a competitor from Peterborough RC. Amy then went on to pick up the award for the "Most improved rower" awarded at the annual dinner held on 30th September. Chris Hemmingway picked up "Oarsman of the Year" and the "Team of the Year" went to the Women's Senior Two Four of Claire Newton, Lydia Swift, Vicky Rigby and Nicky Hardy.

The Chairman's shield for services to the club was awarded to Mike Perry, who is instrumental in organising the Bedford volunteers who run 4 events throughout the year. The next event organised by Bedford Rowing Club is the Autumn Small Boats Head to be held on Sunday 15th October. It is expected that the event will be oversubscribed and large entries have already been received from local clubs and clubs from further a-field such as Marlow Rowing Club and Mortlake Anglian & Alpha Rowing Club from London. The event runs over a 2000 metre course all day in 7 divisions from 9.15 to 4.30. Further details can be found at www.bedfordrowing.co.uk.

Nicky Hardy and Amelia Buckingham race at the Pairs Head in London on Saturday 14th October over a 4k course from Chiswick to Hammersmith Bridge. They race in the Womens Senior Three Doubles Sculls event against crews from around the country.
