Press Release from Bedford Rowing Club - 10th July 2006
Bedford Rowing Club staged the annual Bedford Quarts Sprint Regatta on Sunday over a 650 metre course from the suspension bridge to Bedford Rowing Club.
In an unseasonable headwind, Bedford Rowing Club picked up wins in four event categories. The men's novice crew of Tim Coles, Frank Noppel, Chris Bland and John Vendy coxed by Kayleigh Pullinger won the Men's Novice Coxed Four event beating Cantabrigian Rowing Club by half a length in the semi-final. They then beat Bedford Modern School by 1 and ¾ lengths in the final. Kayleigh Pullinger then coxed the Elite Coxed Four of Andy Hardwick, Andy McCartney, Ben Knowles and Mike Hardy to victory over York City RC in the semi-final and local rivals Star Club in the final. In one of the closest races of the day and racing above their status, Stuart Lewis and Tristan Derry beat club mates Ben Herridge and Brett Walker by one foot in the Men's Senior Four Double Sculls event. James Beechinor beat scullers from Maidenhead RC and St Ives RC to win the Men's Junior 16 Single Sculls event.

At the recent Richmond Regatta over a 1250 metre course on the river Thames, Chris Hemmingway won the Men's Novice Single Sculls event, beating fellow club member Stuart Lewis in the final.
