Star Regatta 2006

Press Release from Bedford Rowing Club - 12th June 2006

Bedford Rowing Club's junior section had a successful day at Star Regatta on Sunday.

Bret Walker and Ben Herridge, both from the Bedford College Sports Academy who row out of Bedford Rowing Club, won their heat to go through the final of Mens Senior Three Double Sculls, where they lost out to St. Neots Rowing Club by 6 seconds. Ben Herridge also raced in the Men's Novice Single Sculls event, where he won a tightly contested semi-final with fellow club member Tristan Derry to win by a few feet earning him a place in the final. In the final he beat a sculler from Weybridge Rowing Club.

The Womens Novice Coxed Quadruple Scull of Katherine Allison, Jelena Tomanic, Tanzy Leitner, Sophie Robertson and cox Kayleigh Pullinger sculled neatly to win convincingly over local opposition from Star Club.

Racing for the first time, juniors Vicky Perkin and Mia Flint showed spirit to lose out to Weybridge Rowing Club in the adult Novice Double Sculls event. Also racing for the first time in the invitational Recreational Eights event were Emma Richards, Sarah Holmes-Ayre, Sian Parker, Kim O'Sullivan, Jackie Warren, Joanne Collet and Jane Leitner, coxed by Jo Lemon.

Next weekend (16th, 17th, 18th June), a womens coxed four from Bedford Rowing Club race at Henley Womens Regatta in the Senior Coxed Fours event.

The next event organised by Bedford Rowing Club is the Quarts Sprint Regatta on Sunday 9th July. The course runs over 650 metres from the suspension bridge to Bedford Rowing Club. Further details can be found at www.bedfordrowing.co.uk
