Hat-trick of wins for Bedford Rowing Club at Peterborough Regatta

Bedford Rowing Club raced at Peterborough Regatta, held on the 4-lane 1000 metre rowing lake, over the weekend of Saturday 3rd June to Sunday 4th June.

Racing over the full 1000 metres on the Saturday, the first win of the day was the Veteran B/C composite double scull of Dave Powell from Bedford Rowing Club racing with Mick Parker from Star Club.

Club captain Michael Hardy joined up with Andy Hardwick to win a close Men's Senior Three Double Sculls event. Despite being in third position out of the four crews in the final with 200 meters to go, they lifted the rating to charge past the two crews ahead to win by one second over Yare Rowing Club. Bill Sadler and Dick Garrett racing with two members of Abingdon Rowing Club clinched victory in the straight final of Veteran D/E coxed fours event, over two crews from Broxbourne Rowing Club.

Two of the three novice scullers racing for the first time in the Men's Novice Sculls event made their event finals. Chris Hemmingway beat club-mate Stuart Lewis in the repechage to qualify for the final where he finished third, while Ben Herridge was second in the other division final. Tom Robb raced in the Men's Senior Two single sculls event on both days being thwarted on both days to finish a close-second.

Bedford's Leon Taylor, now rowing in London for Tideway Sculler's School, competed at Metropolitan Regatta at Dorney Lake in Berkshire. Racing in the Elite Lightweight single sculls he was 5th out of 15 on the Saturday and 5th out of 12 on the Sunday.

Next weekend crews from Bedford Rowing Club race at Star Regatta in Bedford, the National Veterans Championship at Loughborough and Reading Amateur Regatta. The next event organised by Bedford Rowing Club is the Quarts Sprint Regatta on Sunday 9th July. The course runs over 650 metres from the suspension bridge to Bedford Rowing Club.
