Bedford Regatta 2006

Press Release from Bedford Rowing Club - 16th May 2006

Bedford Rowing Club raced at Bedford Amateur Regatta on Saturday 13th May bringing home one event victory in the Women's Senior Two Coxed Four event. The crew of Nicola Hardy, Vicky Rigby, Claire Newton and Lydia Swift, coxed by Katherine Allison stayed ahead of a crew from Dame Alice Harper School in the final, to win by the narrow margin of a canvas. The men's Novice crew of Frank Noppel, Chris Bland, Chris Phelps, John Vendy coxed by Kayleigh Pullinger reached the final of the Plate event, where they lost out to a crew from Harrow School by 1 ½ lengths.

Tom Beechinor and Andrew Walker coxed by Alex Ruhan joined 2 fellow athletes from Star Club to race in the Junior 14 coxed Quadruple sculls event. They had a row-over in their first round race and then went onto beat St. Edwards School B crew easily to reach the semi-final, where they lost out to Norwich School.

The course was from County Bridge 1200m downstream to the Suspension Bridge.

Other crews from Bedford won the following events: Bedford School - Junior 14 Octoples, Junior Coxed Quadruple Sculls, Junior Third Eights, Novice Eights Plate Event. Bedford Modern School -Junior 14 Coxed Quadruple Sculls, Dame Alice Harper School - Women's Senior Four Coxed Four, Women's Junior 16 Quadruple Sculls. Bedford High School - Women's Junior 14 Coxed Quadruple Sculls, Women's Junior 15 Coxed Quadruple Sculls, Women's Senior Three Coxed Four Star Club - Women's Novice Coxed Quadruple Sculls

The next event organised by Bedford Rowing Club is the Quarts Sprint Regatta on Sunday 9th July.
