Press Release from Bedford Rowing Club - 1st May 2006
Bedford Rowing Club had a successful day at Evesham Regatta on Saturday 29th April. Three crews representing the various squads reached and then won their event finals.
Representing the junior men James Beechinor and Jonathon Thompson had a lengthy but ultimately successful day winning the Men's Senior Four Double Sculls event. Beechinor and Thompson won the three qualifying rounds necessary to reach the final and overcame Bristol Ariel Rowing Club.
Bill Sadler and Dick Garret racing in a composite crew with Abingdon Rowing Club won the Veteran E Coxed fours event beating Worcester Rowing Club in the semi-final and Nottingham Britannia Rowing Club in the final. They were coxed by Katherine Allison, who also coxed the victorious Women's Senior Two Coxed Four. The Senior Two crew of Nicola Hardy, Victoria Rigby, Claire Newton and Lydia Swift had a bye to the final and then beat Staines Boat Club over the 1000m course.
The Women's Senior Three Quad of juniors Sarah Keens, Claire Smith, Beth Griffiths and Jelena Tomanic had a tough semi-final which resulted in a rare dead heat against competition from Eton Excelsior Rowing Club. Unfortunately they lost out to Eton in the re-row.
Bedford Rowing Club races next at Bedford Regatta on Saturday 13th May. The course is from County Bridge 1200m downstream to the Suspension Bridge
