Press Release from Bedford Rowing Club - 21st November 2005
Taking the indoor rowing machine option on an extremely chilly Sunday, Bedford Rowing Club had 2 excellent results at the British Indoor Rowing Championships held at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham this weekend.
Representing the fast improving women's junior squad 16 year old Sarah Keens, racing over the distance of 2000m, raced a gutsy race to finish in 4th place out of 41 competitors in a time of 7:34.8 minutes which show much promise for the future.
Leon Taylor, silver medallist in the under 23 sculls event at the National Championships earlier this year, competed for Kingston University in the under 72.5 kg event. He posted a time of 6:31.1minutes to finish 9th out of the 91 competitors, by doing so he met the qualifying standard for the National Squad trials that continue later this year.
Taylor, who is currently using a boat more suited to the heavyweight over 72.5kg category, is looking for sponsorship to be able to use a more suitable racing boat. If you can help this young talent who is a contendor for the GB National Under 23 squad, please contact Chris Hemmingway c/o Bedford Rowing Club on 01234 353183.
This weekend Bedford Rowing Club sends a large entry from the Men's and Women's Senior and Junior squads to Evesham Head of the River Race on Saturday, with some crews also racing locally on Sunday at Star Club's Small Boats Head.
