Bedford Rowing Club - Membership categories & fees
Bedford Rowing Club membership
Membership queries can be directed to the Captain or the Membership Secretary at the Club address.
Bedford Rowing Club has one of the finest fleets of any provincial club. Part of our recent facilities extension works included the provision of a large, well-equipped gym and also a spacious ergo room. The whole club boasts modern facilities, having been fully refitted after a major fire gutted the building in 1984. New larger changing facilities were completed in the new extension in October '99.We have a flexible range of membership categories on offer. The subscription year runs from 1st September to 31st August, pro-rata arrangements are made for those starting mid-season. Membership benefits include discounted entry fees at BRC events.
The following classes of membership shall be available at the rates agreed at the Annual General Meeting in each year:
Rowing
- Senior Rowing: Full use of the Club's equipment and facilities for land and water training.
- Junior Rowing: As for senior membership, for juniors.
- Coxswain: Our valued members - does not cover use of land training equipment (unless your crew considers it necessary to reduce that deadweight...)
- Student Rowing For students wishing to use the Club's equipment and facilities during term time.
- Student (Vacation) Rowing For members studying away from Bedford. This covers use of equipment and facilities during summer, Christmas and Easter vacations only.
- Novices For those new to the sport, there is a one-month introductory period in which you can try out the sport and our facilities. Should you wish to carry on after this introductory period, you will upgrade to senior or student member (as appropriate) and pay those subs, less the introductory fee.
Non-rowing
- The Bedford Rowing Social Club (BRSC) exists to support the Bedford Rowing Club, and is responsible for running the bar and social events. All senior members of Bedford Rowing Club are automatically members of BRSC. If you are not looking or rowing membership, BRSC membership of just £20/year (reduced to £15/year if paid by standing order) gives you full access to the bar facilities. We have a full-time steward: the bar is open every lunchtime and evening, serving bar snacks. We are indebted to the assistance and support given to the Club by Charles Wells brewery, one of our major sponsors.
- Non-Rowing Open only to existing such members of the Club and those who cease active rowing, by agreement of the Committee.
The subscription rates for rowing memberships (as from 1st October 2007)
- Senior £288/year. A popular method of payment is our standing order scheme, monthly payments of £24.
- Junior £120/year.
- Student £72/year (vacation use only - otherwise see 'locally based' rate below).
- Student (locally based) £144/year (for students wishing to use the facilities during term time).
