Success at Cambridge

A ‘Masters D’ 4 boat from Bedford Rowing Club has just completed a successful series of head racing – time trials against the clock, on the River Cam in Cambridge. The competition known as the ‘Cambridge Winter League’ was devised as an aid to winter training, with crews competing in all three legs at monthly intervals, in the hope of seeing improved times over the three legs as an indication of increased fitness.

The Bedford 4 boat, cox’d by Laura Henman and with a crew of Simon Thomas, Tim Coles, Martin Fraser and Phil Dickens achieved a substantial improvement in times over the three legs and recorded times of 12.47mins in January, 12.27mins in February and 11.36mins in the March leg of the competition. The nearest boat in the same category as the Bedford boat was some 1 minute and 55 secs behind.

The crew is now looking forward to further success in the forthcoming ‘Bedford Small Boats Head’ to be held on 14th April and the following summer regatta season.
