Captain’s report October 2016
The only local events attended by BRC crews this month were the MK regatta where we mainly entered Novice crews. Sadly there were no wins for our crews but it does mean that they will start the head racing season with no points.
The older Vets competed at the World Championships in Copenhagen. The crews were: Mike Harris, Dave Catlin, Richard White, Shirl Musselle, Chris Wisbey, Bill Sadler along with 2 other oarsmen from Upper Thames. They entered various competitions and came home with 3 x Gold medals and 1 x Silver medal.
At present we are running a competition for the naming of the new Swift 2x and there has been a good entry of suggestions. It is hoped that the name will be announced in the next report.
The programme to refurbish the older boats has started and Paul at PC boat repairs has totally refurbished one single and on his return from holiday will start work on two other singles and Moore’s Code also being a priority for repair and refurbishment.
We have received a very favourable proposal from ‘Tribe’ personal Trainers which should hopefully gain approval from the committee and work will commence shortly to refurbish and update the gym.
There has been a good level of entries for Bedford’s Small Boats Head and as always, we are in need of volunteers to marshall and steward.
The club Annual Dinner is on 15th October with a disappointing attendance this year. This means that the club will have to subsidise the shortfall as we have been unable to guarantee the required 100 seats.
9th October Autumn Bedford Small Boats Head (entries now closed, draw is out)
16th October Pairs Head of the River – Entries are now closed
12th November Fours Head of the River
13th November Veterans Fours Head of the River
It is crucial that we get entries in early, as most events are closed weeks in advance. Can everyone please use Googlesheets to show their availability and let their coaches know.
