Captain’s report November 2016
The month started with Bedford small boats head on 9th October. We had wins for IM3.4-X (Lee) and IM3.2X (Farley) and WMastD/E.1X (Reay). This event was good first head race experience for many crews with a total of 18 crews entered, the majority being Novice.
The Dev squad, Vet Ds and single Womens novice sculler, Ana Shreeves went to Bristol Autumn Head and came home with a win for the Vet Ds 4+ and good times put in by the 2 other boats.
We are looking forward to the upcoming Star Head when we hope to put in a good entry on the 20th of this month.
The competition for the naming of the new Swift 2x had a good entry of suggestions and Top and Tail was chosen, as suggested by Paul Brown. We are looking to name 4 other boats and once these have been done a naming ceremony will be held for the newly named boats.
The programme to refurbish the older boats with Paul at PC boat repairs and is ongoing. We have had one single back (boat 125, yet to be named) and this has gone straight back into service. Boat 124 is with PC boat repairs and John Mingay next on the list.
The committee agreed to the refurbishment and continued support of the gym by Tribe. This is now well under way and is due to be fully finished and up and running by 1st December.
I have replaced the racking in the Junior bay, which has meant that the 4s now have sliding racks and they have moved 2m closer to the front doors. Hopefully this will make for easier racking and unracking. I would like to thank Paul Crouch for all the help doing this.
The club Annual Dinner, although poorly supported compared with previous years, was a success. With the raffle and auction almost £1000 was raised. Can I remind everyone to pay for their silent auction bids if they have not yet done so.
