Bedford Borough Council decided to move its biennial River Festival from May to July, since the weather then is generally somewhat better. The weekend that they chose was that of the Quarts Sprint, which means that we had to choose between holding the Regatta either on Henley Sunday, or during the National Championships.
Neither date was attractive, and neither would have been chosen voluntarily. In the end, it was decided to hold the Regatta on Henley Sunday, on the reasonable assumption that few crews entering Bedford would be racing then.
Unfortunately, insufficient entries were received to make this a viable event, and therefore, with much regret, the Events Committee was forced to cancel the Regatta.
